Who We Are
About SBMSA Girls Lacrosse
SBMSA Girls Lacrosse offers K–8th grade girls the opportunity to learn, play, and compete in one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. We welcome beginners and experienced athletes alike, with programs designed to build skills, foster teamwork, and develop a lifelong love for the game.
Fall Ball Clinics (Sept–Nov)
SBMSA Fall Ball is back for 2025! Our fall program is designed to grow the game of girls’ lacrosse by welcoming brand-new players while also giving returning athletes a great environment to keep developing. Whether your daughter is picking up a stick for the first time or sharpening her skills for club or Dragons, Fall Ball offers something for everyone.
Over the course of 10–12+ clinics, girls in grades 1–8 will receive top-notch coaching from Southcoast staff, Dragon’s select team coaches, local high school players, former players, and volunteers. Each session blends focused skill work with live play so athletes learn to apply their skills in game situations. In addition, players will have opportunities for Community Play Days with other programs and Sunday Pick-Up Games for extra, low-pressure playing time.
Fall Ball is also the perfect preparation for players who plan to try out for the SBMSA Dragons Select teams in the spring.
Dates: September 8 – November 9 (Mondays & Thursdays, 1.5 hours each)
Tryouts: No
Location: SBMSA fields (TBD)
Cost: $330 (goalie discounts available)
Spring House League (Jan–Apr)
Our House League is the heart of SBMSA Girls Lacrosse, a place where girls of all skill levels can learn, grow, and play in a supportive environment. We focus on building confidence, increasing touches on the ball, and developing game awareness, all while keeping the experience fun and engaging.
The league is open to girls in Kindergarten through 8th grade. K–2 plays a developmental format, 3rd–4th graders play 7v7, and 5th–6th graders play a 12v12 format on a larger field. There are no tryouts for House League. We kick off in January with optional preseason clinics, followed by team formation and regular practices. Our goal is to provide a minimum of one skills practice per week across the entire age group and to play up to 10 weekend games.
House League is also a great complement for Dragons players who want additional game reps alongside friends and teammates. Uniforms are included in registration.
Dates: Jan – Apr (exact dates TBD)
Tryouts: No
Location: SBMSA fields (TBD)
Cost: $330 (goalie discounts available)
Spring Dragons Select Team (Jan–Apr)
The SBMSA Dragons are our elite competitive program, offering players the opportunity to face top lacrosse talent in the Greater Houston area and travel to other Texas cities to compete against some of the best teams in the state. We are proud members of the Greater Houston Girls Youth Lacrosse Association (GHGYLA). Registration is open to girls in 3rd–8th grade.
Dragons teams play the traditional 12v12 format with goalies (8v8 for 3rd–4th graders). They are built to challenge experienced athletes while giving developing players a taste of the speed, skill, and style of high school lacrosse. Games for 5th–8th grade are scheduled throughout the week and weekend, while 3rd–4th grade games are primarily on weekends. Select travel weekends provide additional opportunities for out-of-town competition.
Practices begin as early as December and are held twice weekly at SBEC or Spring Woods Middle School (SWMS). The season concludes with the GHGYLA End-of-Season Tournament.
Tryouts for the 5/6 and 7/8 Dragons Select teams will be held in December. All players interested in Dragons must also register for the House League and indicate their intention to try out.
Dates: Jan – Apr (exact dates TBD)
Tryouts: Yes (December date TBD)
Location: SBMSA fields (TBD)
Dragons Select: Additional $330 if selected (goalie discounts available)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Lacrosse is a fast-paced sport that incorporates the finesse of soccer, the footwork of basketball and the hand-eye coordination of hockey. When young girls are introduced to the concept of shooting, their eyes light up!
Games are approximately one hour long with a running clock. Depending on the division, teams play either 8v8 or 12v12 (including a goalie). Field positions include midfielders, attackers, and defenders. Lacrosse moves quickly, and officials will often explain calls to players during games to help with learning. Players are grouped by age (U8, U10, U12, U14).
Fall Ball: Runs September–November. Practices are typically held Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30–8:00 PM.
Spring Season: Runs January–April. Practices begin in early January, with games on weekends and some weeknights, depending on the team.
Tryouts are held for the 5th–8th grade Dragons Select teams. All players who try out are automatically placed in our House League and are required to participate, whether or not they make a Dragons roster.
Yes! We group players by skill level so that beginners receive focused instruction, while experienced players continue to be challenged.
We do our best to accommodate friend requests while also ensuring balanced teams.
You may submit a coach request, and we’ll do our best to honor it when possible.
Players must have a girls’ lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and a mouthguard for all practices and games.
Lacrosse Unlimited is a great resource.
We have a limited number of sticks and goggles available for loan at the first practice for new players.
Fall: TBD SBMSA Fields
Spring: SBEC Fields, Spring Woods Middle School (SWMS), and WAIS
Fall: Our Fall Ball season runs from early September through early November, featuring local clinics, play days, and Sunday pick-up games.

Dragons Select: Dragons select teams travel for additional competition, including games in Houston, Dallas, and other Texas cities. Dragons also participate in select travel tournaments, such as the Aggieland Classic in College Station and the GHGYLA End-of-Season Tournament in April.
We encourage multi-sport and well-rounded athletes! We simply ask that you RSVP to practices and games so coaches can plan accordingly.
