Ernie Trozzo – SBMSA Football Legend
The accomplishments in the SBMSA football, baseball, and basketball programs that Coach Trozzo (Coach T.) led were truly remarkable. He volunteered numerous hours to coach many players, instilling in them important values that still resonate today. One former player said about him, “At the time of coaching, Coach Trozzo’s main priorities were to win with class, be on time, prepare through good practices, and be disciplined in your game assignments. Looking back, Coach T. faced numerous challenges, particularly when managing type-A dads who were helping to coach. However, Coach T’s calm demeanor and strong leadership skills allowed him to navigate these challenges gracefully and easily. His ability to manage others is a testament to his skill as a coach.” Coach Trozzo’s coaching legacy was seen in his players’ work ethic, expectation of excellence, and desire to succeed. His leadership and coaching helped his players mesh with the next level of programs, so those teams could excel. Throughout his coaching career, Coach Trozzo influenced many teams to victory. He was involved with the Longhorns, Jets, Bobcats, Dodgers, Falcons, Mets, Cubs, Apache’s, Angels, A’s, Rockets, Colts, Hawks, and Cardinals. His dedication to his craft and commitment to his players helped him win multiple championships along the way, but more importantly, he built character among young players throughout the SBMSA program.
