About SBMSA Soccer
SBMSA’s soccer program was started in 1977. With over 3,000 children playing every season, both boys and girls participate in two separate programs in this sport, sharing common fields located on SBISD school campuses.
Age Divisions
For the 5-6 and 7-8 year old age groups, teams are generally formed by school attended whenever possible.
For the 9-10 and 11-15 year old age groups, teams are formed using a skills assessment and league-wide draft to improve competitive balance throughout the league.
Practice & Game Schedule
Teams will practice one to two times per week prior to the season starting and then typically one practice per week during the regular season. Games are played from mid-September through mid-November during the week in the evenings, under the lights, and in the morning/early afternoon on Saturdays.
Weekday evening game times are 5:30 / 6:00 PM and then 7:00 / 7:30pm. Most teams will have one to two games per week. The game fields are the ones that the Sports Association has built and maintains, and are used for baseball, softball, and lacrosse in the spring.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Teams will be formed at the end of August/beginning of September after registration closes (and after player evaluations are held for the 10U and Seniors divisions). You will be notified by your player’s volunteer head coach once he/she is assigned to a team.
Practice days and times are at the discretion of your player’s volunteer head coach. Teams will typically practice one to two times per week and have one to two games per week (total of ~3 practices/games per week generally). Practices will begin in early September.
The game schedule will be available in early September after teams are formed. Games begin in mid-September. Games will be played on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings/afternoons. You can expect one to two games per week.
All teams will qualify for a post-season tournament at the conclusion of the regular season. The post-season tournament will begin around the end of October concluding with Championship Saturday in mid-November.
SBMSA Soccer has received significant positive feedback regarding the 6th grade division since its introduction in 2022. This division is intended to promote the following:
- Continued participation from players that age out of the 10U division (4th-5th grade) and bridge them to participate in the Super Senior division;
- Continued participation from players nearing the upper age limit of the Senior division;
- Opportunities for social interaction among players entering middle school together; and
- Balanced competition for both the 6th grade division and Super Senior division
Please note that the formation of a 6th grade division is dependent on an adequate number of participants. The Senior division will consist of 11-15 year olds if it is deemed that there is an insufficient level of participation to form a separate 6th grade division.
Volunteer Coaches
Our volunteers are the heart of SBMSA Soccer. All SBSMA coaches are volunteers and must pass a background check and be PCA certified (Positive Coaching Alliance) every two years. Coaches are required to wear league provided badges at all games.
