Boys Lacrosse
About SBMSA Boys Lacrosse
We encourage everyone to come out and try lacrosse and see why this is the fastest growing sport in America.
We offer the following programs throughout the year for Boys lacrosse:
Fall Ball
Fall Ball is offseason training for boys ages 1st – 8th grades. This is an opportunity for kids to get coaching and skills training during the lacrosse off season. The program typically runs from September to October of each year.
Spring – 7v7 League (includes uniform)
The Spring 7v7 League is an “in-house” league open to participants in 1st – 6th grade. This league is designed to develop the skills of all players from beginners to experienced players, while allowing them to compete against each other in a more structured team format.
Players within SBMSA are divided into the following divisions:
- Grades 1 and 2 – 5v5 with goalies and soft balls.
- Grades 3 and 4 – 7v7 with goalies. Teams are divided as best as possible by schools or regions to allow for younger players to play and learn with their friends.
- Grades 5 and 6 – 7v7 with goalies. Participants will attend a skills assessment. Coaches draft teams from within the SBMSA pool of participants to create fair and competitive teams in the league.
Spring 7v7 typically begins in late January and plays through May with games held on Sunday afternoons.
Spring – Knights League (includes uniform)
The 5th-8th grade Knights league is a full field competitive league that competes against other programs in the region such as The Woodlands, Katy, Pearland, Magnolia and others. This program is 10v10 with goalies on a larger field and is designed to help increase the skills of more competitive players while also giving less experienced players a glimpse of what the games and format is like for Tournament / Select lacrosse and High School lacrosse.
3rd and 4th grade play 7v7 with goalies on a smaller field.
The Knights League begins with tryouts the first week of December. Teams are formed and practices and games start in February and run through May. The games are on Saturdays with some weeknight games.
Players that are in 3rd – 6th grades are encouraged to play for both SBMSA Knights and in the 7v7 League. Playing in both leagues can fast track skills development.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The 7v7 league can accommodate both beginner and experienced players. Coaches are required to rotates players among the different positions on the field allowing players to learn the game and where their skill set fits best.
All 7v7 games will be played on Sunday afternoons at SBEC (with the exception of the first two weeks for 1st/2nd grade. Those games will be played at Battleline Sports on Pech Road).
All Knights players 3rd-6th grade are encouraged to play in the 7v7 league to maximize their touches and experience all positions on the field. They are also encouraged to try out for the Knights team.
The 7v7 league is more flexible and coaches try to accommodate players schedules when arranging practices. All games will be on Sunday afternoon. The Knights league is a select league, it is expected for players to prioritize Knights practices and
games (two practices during week and games on Saturdays).
Since the Knights league is a select league, it is expected that players prioritize Knights practices and games (two practices during week and games on Saturdays).
Knights home games will be played on Saturdays at SBEC. Away games could be anywhere in the Greater Houston Area (Woodlands, Richmond, Cypress, etc…). There could be 1 or 2 weekends when the Knights will travel to other cities like Austin or Dallas.
7v7 (in house league)
–1st-4th grade: teams will be formed by school when possible
–5th-6th grade: There will be two days of tryouts where coaches will assess players before the draft (all 7v7 players will be placed on a team).
Knights
All Knights teams will be decided through a multi-day tryout. Based on enrollment and tryouts, there may be a need to cut some players. Players in 3rd-6th grade that do not make a Knights team are encouraged to play 7v7. Typically, the Knights have two teams (A and B) per age group (4U, 6U, 8U).
The Knights can play anywhere from 1-3 games/per day.
The Knights are a select team that represents the Spring Branch/Memorial area. The coaches are professional lacrosse coaches who are hired by the Knights board and paid to coach and travel with the teams.
